North West Sexual Violence Awareness Week Something special is happening this week as organisations across the North West of England come together to raise awareness of sexual violence and the specialist support services available to survivors. This collaboration is to celebrate the first North West Sexual Violence Awareness Week, running from 8th -14th November 2021. An initiative led by North West Police and Crime Commissioners, police authorities, and sexual assault and abuse services from across the region to help show survivors that they are not alone, and there are organisations they can turn to for specialist support. “We are encouraging people across the North West to talk openly about sexual violence and their experiences, whether that be to a friend, family or one of the specialist organisations." Rebecca Williams, project lead & Sexual Violence Communications & Engagement Manager. What events are happening? Each day throughout the week the spotlight has shone on a county in the North West. With each area hosting their own event to raise awareness within their community. The events range from art installations and stalls to powerful moments of reflection. You can view a full line-up of events here >> Alongside these events, those of you in the North West should be on the lookout for a purple glow on the skyline. The Blackpool Tower, Chester’s Clock Tower and Merseyside’s Radio City tower are just some of the iconic buildings which will be lit up purple in solidarity with survivors of sexual violence. The campaign has also launched a new website to help survivors in the North West easily access information about specialist support, and find a service that is right for them. The website signposts to a wide range of organisations including, TST member agencies: Safety Net, The Birchall Trust, Trust House Lancashire, Survivors Manchester and RASASC Cheshire and Merseyside. There is also a selection of informative survivor support packs available to download. These include explanations of what sexual violence is, how you can seek help, how you can support others and a simplified guide on the process of report to court.
