Motorcycle stuntman John Taylor along with The Cymru Knievels will be riding to Downing Street on Saturday 15th July to help protect children from abuse.

The Ride Out to London will travel from Liverpool to Downing Street, where John Taylor will deliver a letter to Rishi Sunak at No10 calling on the Government to support the introduction of well-designed mandatory reporting of known and suspected child sexual abuse, by those who work in teaching, healthcare, sport, faith settings and many other places where children spend so much time. 

Mandatory reporting of suspected or known child abuse is a vital component of a functioning child protection system in institutional settings. If you work with children, and see one of your charges being abused or even raped, you might think you and your employer had a legal obligation to report it to the authorities. Not so. At present, there is no legal requirement for anyone working with minors in England (Wales or Scotland) to report such incidents and concerns to the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO), children’s services or in the event of a ‘known’ crime, the police.

The letter being delivered to Downing Street has been backed by authors and broadcasters such as Nicky Campbell, James O'Brien, Alex Renton and Nick Duffel along with some of the UK's most prominent lawyers, The Survivors Trust and many former IICSA panel members.

Adult survivors know only too well the impact of ineffective child protection and institutional failure to respond effectively to child sexual abuse. The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse laid bare the extent of this failure and made 20 recommendations to improve how we protect children, including calling for mandatory reporting which will drive the culture change we need in how institutions and people working in regulated activities like schools and sports clubs keep children safe.”
