The Southmead Project provides free counselling and support for survivors of abuse and addiction across Bristol, South Gloucestershire, BANES and North Somerset. We support adults of all genders who have experienced any type of abuse (including sexual, physical, emotional and domestic abuse, and neglect).

Area covered: Bristol, South Gloucestershire, Bath and North East Somerset (BANES) and North Somerset. We offer sessions in person, online and by phone. Nexus counselling takes place at outreach locations across Bristol.

Opening hours: Monday to Friday: 9:00am to 5:00pm

Long-term counselling
Nexus counselling for survivors who have an addiction to drugs or alcohol
Pre-counselling groups for people on our waiting list for counselling
Active Recovery Project for current or past clients, which offers weekly activities in the community (such as water sports and creative sessions)
Family Support Group for people who support someone with an addiction to drugs or alcohol or anyone affected by someone else’s addiction

The Survivors Trust has 120 member organisations based in the UK & Ireland which provide specialist support for women, men & children who have survived rape, sexual violence or childhood sexual abuse.
Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARC)

SARCs (sexual assault referral centres) are specialist medical and forensic services for anyone who has been raped or sexually assaulted. They are designed to be comfortable and multi-functional, providing private space for interviews and forensic examinations, and some may also offer sexual health and counselling services.

Who We Are

The Survivors Trust is the largest umbrella agency for specialist sexual violence support services in Europe. Our member agencies provide information, advice, support and therapy to over 100,000 individual survivors each year. Our services work with victims and survivors of all ages and genders, of all forms of sexual violence, sexual abuse and sexual exploitation.

Independent Sexual Violence Advisers (ISVA)

Many specialist support agencies offer an Independent Sexual Violence Adviser (ISVA) service to victims/survivors of rape and sexual assault. An ISVA is trained to look after your needs, and to ensure that you receive care and understanding.
ISVA Practitioner Diploma

Independent Sexual Violence Advisers (ISVAs) provide emotional support and guidance for anyone that has experienced sexual violence at any point in their lives. Our accredited training focuses on a survivor focused ethos, meaning that we train our ISVAs to have their clients needs at the centre of all of their work.
